Integration of educational contents in Biology and Geography from the point of view of in-service teachers
SOUKUP, Radek
The aim of the bachelor's thesis was to find out how practical teachers perceive the integration of the educational contents of natural history and geography. Most elementary schools in the Czech Republic adhere to traditional education and divide the curriculum into separate subjects. Teaching in elementary schools is based on curriculum documents at the state and school level. The framework education program sets the general framework for the individual stages of education and the school education program. It provides the possibility to create educational subjects through the integration of educational contents of several educational fields, but also the use of cross-subject relationships in the classical concept in individual subjects. The aim of the survey was to find out how the teachers themselves view integration and how they implement it in their classes. The work includes an analysis of the current state of integrated teaching in selected schools. The analysis was carried out on the basis of a questionnaire survey among the approached teachers from practice. Teachers teaching geography, natural history, or both of these subjects at the same time were approached. A total of 10 practicing teachers voluntarily shared their opinions, observations, and experiences with integrated teaching. The interviewees also mentioned the ambiguities, doubts, and problems that they encounter or may encounter when implementing this type of teaching in practice. Based on a questionnaire survey, it was found that teaching in intersubjective relationships is applied in everyday practice. On the contrary, integration in the sense of integration of educational contents of several educational fields is hardly used by teachers in practice. For this type of teaching, according to the answers of the respondents, there is a lack of undergraduate training for future teachers, teaching materials and experience.
Influence of animations on pupils' motivation and academic achievements in Science education
Šarboch, David
The dissertation deals with the influence of interactive educational animations on the motivation and academic achievements of pupils. Currently, student motivation in teaching is a much discussed topic (Ikwuka et al., 2017). The authors of many studies, as well as the creators of national curricula, declare that it is necessary to focus on the transition from traditional teaching methods (eg. frontal teaching) to methods that activate pupils. At the same time, we are currently observing the low popularity of science subjects among primary and secondary school pupils (Szarka et al., 2014). Therefore, it is advisable to come up with methods that, on the one hand, create an interactive environment in which students can develop their knowledge, skills and competences, and on the other hand, interest and motivate students to further work. Thus, the main goal of the dissertation is to find out how animation affects the motivation and academic results of secondary school students (especially in science subjects). A didactic tool that could help fulfill these facts is educational animation. The majority of authors who deal with the issue of educational animations agree on the positive contribution of their use in classes in many aspects, however, there is currently a lack of research that has dealt with...

Digestion as an interdisciplinary topic in science education
Šarboch, David ; Teplá, Milada (advisor) ; Martínek, Václav (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on creating educational materials (educational text and educational animation) for secondary schools emerging topic of digestion in human body. The thesis consists of theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part the following terms are defined: interdisciplinarity, visualization and animation. Moreover, the presence of the topic in the RVP G and analysis of accesible videos and animations, made in relation with the topic, are investigated. Results of both form a base to create educational materials within the practical part. Finally, a chapter about quantitative research method - questionnaire is incorporated. In the practical part of the diploma thesis, the results of realised questionnaire research are disscused. This questionnaire investigated the state of teaching of digestion in human body at secondary schools. The next chapter is dedicated to a manual for educational animation, the introduction of the programme Adobe Flash Professional CS6 and an educational text. The educational text is devoted to teachers at the first place and consists of basic as well as wider information gathering chemical and biological knowledge, which are related to the topic of the educational animation. The animation itself is put as the attachement on CD-ROM. Both of the...
Teaching students with specific learning difficulties focusing on science at high schools
Lidová, Lenka ; Rajsiglová, Jiřina (advisor) ; Kortová, Veronika (referee)
The specific learning difficulties (LD) are nowadays frequently discussed topic, which is still more current even at high schools. Teachers should help these students because of their learning difficulties. LD students are not stupid, they just need a little bit different approach in the classroom than the others. This thesis mainly shows various teachers' approaches to students with LD in different schools and different countries. Because I study teaching biology and chemistry, the work is focused on science subjects and on teachers of these subjects. The aim of this paper is also to propose the basic procedures of working with the LD students for high school teachers with the real ideas of possible adaptations in the science class. In order to discuss approaches to the work with LD students it was necessary to prepare an LD overview at first. To achieve the aims of the work we used methods such as literary research, questionnaire survey and interviews with teachers and students. The theoretical part summarizes basic information about various learning difficulties, different approach to LD students in science, the teachers' and classmates' attitudes to LD in various countries and different approaches to integration of LD students in various countries. The task of the practical part was to identify...

Formative Assessment in Science Education in ISCED 2 and 3
Sobotková, Petra ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Chvál, Martin (referee)
My diploma thesis focuses on formative assessment of natural sciences, such as Biology and Chemistry on the ISCED 2 and 3 level. The aim of the work is to introduce formative assessment as such and to present designs of materials and activities for formative evaluation development in natural sciences. The theoretical part examines the school assessment matter. It describes a formative assessment in detail including assessing methods and techniques. The aim of the empirical part was to map materials for formative assessment development in the school subjects of Biology and Chemistry. Moreover, all the materials were tested in practice. Another goal was to identify what was the effect of using the new methods of formative assessment in the school. It also explores the possibility of students attitude change in learning and whether it successfully affected their performance in the subjects. The research method used in the work was action research which was conducted in the author's teaching. Interviews in focus groups in third year of four-year academy and fifth year of eighth-year academy at a private grammar school were used for the collection of data. The research findings show that using methods such as feedback, peer evaluation and evaluation according to defined criteria in Biology and Chemistry...
Indication of pupils' misconceptions in science
Metelcová, Tereza ; Janoušková, Svatava (advisor) ; Kotvaltová Sezemská, Karolína (referee)
The topic (theme) of this dissertation is a misconception indication of of pupils 2, 3rd years of four-year grammar schools, respectively. sexes and septimates of eight-year grammar schools concerning knowledge of human biology (functioning of blood circulation, first aid, ontogenetic development etc.). The aim is to verify the presence of each of these types of misconception and their incidence among students at four grammar schools in the Czech Republic (Prague, Tabor, Sokolov). A tool for obtaining data will be a didactic test with closed and open questions. Individual questions are grouped by topic to which they relate, so that the problem areas of the curriculum in human biology can be predicted. The didactic test will be a model for verifying pupils' misconception across the board. Data obtained from this model will probe for correct or incorrect perceptions of students about the functioning of the human body. This probe can be developed to more global research on the topic. From my perspective, however, the probe has to be especially incentive for teachers of biology, who may use it during lessons to correct the misconceptions of students. Then, the test can serve them as an evaluation tool-verify that their interpretation helped to suppress, resp. eliminate, the students' misconception....
